THE Barbados Cycling Union (BCU) has earmarked a portion of land at Bushy Park in St Philip that will be the hub of future BMX riding in this country.

BCU president Keith Yearwood told the WEEKEND NATION that the union has been able to negotiate with the American Cycling Federation to send down a track builder to Barbados free of cost to build the facility, which will be near to the renowned motor sport venue.

“This is a move in the right direction. If we can make this a reality, it will be huge for cycling as there is a massive interest in BMX riding among young cyclists. My focus is on development, not to pull down organisations,” he said.

The four acres of land has been vested under the National Sports Council and is now awaiting an environmental impact study.  (MK)
