Fete but don’t overdo it, doc advises
LEADING CARDIOLOGIST Dr Richard Ishmael has issued some advice to revellers who will be participating in the last lap Crop Over festivities over the next couple of days.
In responding to a question about how Barbadians should approach events like Foreday Morning and Grand Kadooment, he cautioned people not to “overdo it” but just “enjoy themselves, don’t overdo it, don’t drive and drink and just enjoy themselves”.
He was speaking yesterday to the WEEKEND NATION at the Caribbean Cardiac Society’s 31st Caribbean Cardiology Conference at the Hilton Barbados.
Ishmael also said that the conference was a tourism boost for the festival.
He said that when the conference was held in Barbados “every five or six years”, it was usually with an aim of encouraging the visiting cardiologists, surgeons, technicians and general practitioners to stay and enjoy the festivities that come with the Crop Over festival.
Ishmael said those attending the conference were able to experience the food, culture and music of the island, things that they would not experience back in their respective home nations.
He wished everyone would “jump”.
“I think that those partaking should enjoy themselves . . . Yes, we are going to eat and drink a lot, but I just think we should do it in moderation,” he said. (JJS)
