Last glimpse of Sir Frederick

THE GEORGE STREET Auditorium was opened yesterday to give many Barbadians a chance to see Sir Frederick Smith for the last time. 

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and others from the Democratic Labour Party were among those paying their respects.

Stuart said some of Sir Frederick’s many accomplishments were being the island’s first Attorney General and the one who introduced some important pieces of legislation, including the National Insurance and Social Security Act 1967 which established the Social Security Scheme in Barbados, “which is the envy of people across this hemisphere”.

Smith served also as Minister of Education and Minister of Communications and Works before retiring from elective politics in 1978. (LK)
