IT HAS BEEN ASSUMED that Britain will use the Commonwealth as a fallback territory following its move away from the European Union (EU).

So says Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, Robert “Bobby” Morris.

“There is a certain homogeneity in the British Commonwealth that you can bet that sooner or later, once Britain negotiates its Brexit, the next move will be a closer relationship between Britain and the Commonwealth. I do not think Britain has all this much to lose; Britain coming out of Europe with any sense that they will be any poorer but are coming out rather positive.”

Morris was one of the panellists at the annual Robert “Bobby” Thomas memorial panel discussion at the Christ Church Foundation School earlier this week focusing on the topic The Economic, Social And Political Implications Of The Brexit Vote On The Caribbean. (LK)
