$30M student loan ‘stress’

STUDENT REVOLVING LOAN defaulters owe approximately $30 million.

Maintaining that the Student Revolving Loan was not broke, Minister of Education Ronald Jones admitted that the Government-run system was “stressed” as he held a press conference yesterday to announce the Barbados Scholarship and Exhibition winners.

“Yes, the Student Revolving Loan Fund is under some stress,” he said.

“That stress has been precipitated by those persons who owe Student Revolving not meeting their commitments, and as well we’ve had in the last three years substantial demand,” he explained. (AD)
