‘Two new taxes’ coming

TWO NEW TAXES could be coming in tomorrow’s Budget, says economist Ryan Straughn.

One may be on imports and locally produced goods, and the other on bank assets.

Straughn, the former president of the Barbados Economics Society and now an Opposition Barbados Labour Party first-time candidate, made the claim yesterday.

Declaring that “there was no more room for holes on the economic belts of Barbadians”, Straughn said he was reliably informed that the new tax on imports and locally produced goods would attempt to collect in excess of $120 million. (SP)
