MEMBERS OF THE public are being cautioned about the illegal importation of rat poison, being sold by unauthorised individuals.

The warning has been issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management’s (MAFFW) chief agricultural officer Lennox Chandler who has advised consumers that they should purchase rat poison only from authorised places of business.

He said that the illegal product is extremely toxic and can result in death to persons and animals. He noted that it has not been approved by the Pesticide Control Board (PCB) and no one has a licence to import it.

According to Chandler “A licence to import any form of pesticide for agricultural or household use must be obtained from the PCB at the MAFFW, and persons found in possession of this product can be prosecuted under the appropriate legislation.”  (BGIS)
