BL&P to investigate cause of outage

THE BARBADOS LIGHT and Power Company (BL&P) said they were hoping for full restoration of power by 11 a.m. following an island wide power outage just before 6 a.m.

BL&P corporate communications administrator Jackie Marshall-Clarke apologised to customers but said while they were trying to restore the power, they wanted to do it safely.

Speaking on Starcom Network just before 11 a.m., she said they started the restoration process just before 8 a.m. and were still restoring most of the south and west coasts.

“Persons in the north are back on and we worked first as a priority with customers in the Bridgetown area but there are still pockets of customers across the island without electricity,” she said.

At left, the Public Workers Co-Operative Credit Union on Broad Street was also closed.

While thanking the public for their patience, Marshall-Clarke said it was a lengthy process and BL&P had to investigate the cause and stabilise the system before restoring service.

Pressed about the cause of the outage, Marshall-Clarke said they had an initial understanding of what caused it but would only be able to speak after crews, engineers and other officials meet.

She promised to keep customers updated. (LK)
