A NEW state-of-the-art National Stadium carrying a price tag of $150 million is earmarked to replace the existing dilapidated facility at Waterford.
Lack of funding has prevented authorities from giving a timeline on the proposed construction, but Minister of Sports Stephen Lashley yesterday revealed it would require a phased approach to complete the project.
Speaking to the MIDWEEK NATION after a Press conference at his Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall office, Lashley said Cabinet had decided to look for an initial amount of $50 million for the first phase that would include the demolition of existing stands and the construction of a new grandstand.
Earlier, he told reporters he believed the project should be given priority given the current unsatisfactory state of the stadium. (RA)
