Upscale garbage found off West Coast

EVEN THE GARBAGE in the waters off the platinum West Coast is different.

But there is still a lot of it.

Yesterday, just over 75 pounds of garbage were removed by 15 divers from HighTide and EcoDive from the waters off Paynes Bay, St James, in the final underwater clean-up in the Clean Bim initiative, organised by the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU) and the Barbados chapter of the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN).

It showed that the garbage in the sea mirrored life on the coast. There were wine bottles aplenty – of the 23 glass bottles pulled from the deep, well over half that number once contained some sort of fermented juice.
