Call for audit of PSV drivers

INTERIM CHAIRMAN of the Association of Public Transport Operators Morris Lee is calling for an amnesty for drivers of public service vehicles who have chalked up a high numbers of convictions.

He suggested an audit be carried out on the offences, and depending on the results, the offenders’ slates should be “wiped clean” and a fresh start offered.

It is a proposal that Lee told the media on Monday he had put to successive ministers of transport, to no avail.

He said he believed there was a need for enlightenment where the subject of convictions was concerned and he called for a definition of convictions, saying the parameters were “extremely wide”. (GC)
