BARBADIANS ARE STILL waiting for authorities to signal the all clear.
The country remains on virtual lock down with schools still closed, public transportation suspended, the Grantley Adams International Airport closed and Category 1 shelters open.
A few residents turned up at least three school shelters – Ellerslie Secondary School, The Lester Vaughan School and Combermere School – according to reports. Stakeholders are due to meet to decide on a path and word is expected around 8 a.m.
The system has now been classified as a tropical disturbance and could soon be upgraded to a depression as it approaches the island.
Met officials advise residents to continue to monitor the system which has shifted slightly, but should still pass to the north. While wind speeds are not yet at storm force, they may be higher near gusts and the impact should be felt later today.
Meanwhile, officials at the Airport say it will remain closed until a directive has been issued. Passengers are asked to monitor the radio before proceeding to the facility. (AC)
