Garbage piles in City

MASSIVE GARBAGE PILES took some Bridgetown streets by storm yesterday.

But according to president of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Eddy Abed, the unsightly pile-ups could have been prevented with better planning for bad weather.

Abed said he suspected some retailers put out their refuse despite the approaching weather system, which was upgraded to Tropical Storm Matthew yesterday in an 11 a.m. bulletin from the Meteorological Office.

Since the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) did not collect garbage as a result of severe weather warnings, the mounds of garbage remained, he said. (LT)
