TECHNICAL DIRECTOR of the World Road Tennis Championships, Philip “Foff” Garner, has taken issue with comments made by the chief executive officer of the Professional Road Tennis Association, Dale Clarke, about the structure of the upcoming competition.
Clarke (below) made the comments in the last SATURDAY SUN.
Garner charged that Clarke “should be the last person to talk about being professional” given, what he called the poor structure of Clarke’s ongoing competition: the Barbados Cooperative Credit Union Limited’s Monarch of the Court Road Tennis Tournament.
“Anytime at all I have a competition giving out a car, and in the ladies category the first prize is $15 000, if there is sponsorship of that magnitude and (I) can only attract 40 people in the competition, then something is wrong,” Garner said. (RA)
