Beacon going back to court on Workbench case

TRINIDAD-BASED INSURANCE COMPANY Beacon Insurance is going to court to settle the case involving settlement of an insurance claim with Barbadian company Workbench Furniture Limited.

Beacon’s decision comes after a protracted claims battle between the two parties, following a fire which gutted the furniture factory on Spring Garden Highway in April, 2012.

In an exclusive interview Thursday, chief operations officer of Beacon Insurance, Christopher Woodhams said: “In the last two or three years we have been very aggressively trying to settle the matter with Workbench, using a very quiet approach. But after exhausting all options in settling the matter we are going to court.”

The Trinidadian insurance executive claimed Beacon had made several attempts  over three years “to settle this matter in good faith”, giving  Workbench extensions to prove their loss, even going through a mediation process. However to date the two parties had not been able to reach a mutually satisfactory arrangement. (GC)
