THE TRANSITION OF THE Customs and Excise Department to the Barbados Revenue Authority is proceeding as planned.

Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler gave the update today, three weeks after announcing October 1 as the final date to begin the exercise.

Sinckler told NATION Online 95 per cent of the issues related to appointments – which had been a bone of contention with the trade unions – had “been gone through”.

He also reported the option forms which had been returned were being processed, while necessary administrative arrangements were being put in place in accordance with legal requirements.

The Minister of Finance did not give a timeline for the process, only to say it would be continuing.

Sinckler was speaking at the opening ceremony of the St Michael’s Battle of the West Primary Schools’ Competition at the St Leonard’s Boys’ School this morning. (GC)
