FORMER PRIME MINISTER Owen Arthur believes Government is on “the worst possible path” to fixing the country’s economy.
And the veteran economist said privatisation of some statutory corporations wouldn’t be such a bad thing, since previous Governments, both Barbados Labour Party (BLP) and Democratic Labour Party (DLP), had practised it before with good effect.
“To say that privatisation can’t work is like saying that in accordance with the laws of aerodynamics, a bumblebee can’t fly. When I hear the general secretary of the BWU making an issue about it, I wonder,” Arthur told reporters outside the House of Assembly yesterday.
“Privatisation simply means that you let the private sector do things that Government has been doing, where the private sector perhaps is better able to do them.”
