THE DEMOCRATIC LABOUR Party (DLP) has not yet selected its slate of candidates, but it is not threatened by the fact that the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) has.
Speaking at the party’s George Street, St Michael headquarters yesterday, general secretary George Pilgrim said the DLP candidates were usually selected by its executive and after a “rigorous” process.
“You will never see an occasion in the party where voter padding takes place for the sake of influencing their constituency branch with respect to a particular candidate. So we monitor those persons expressing an interest in running in constituencies on a very, very consistent basis, and what we do in terms of information we gather is fed right back to the party’s executive. So the party leader chairs our meetings and he is quite aware of the actions, the activities of all of our candidates. (YB)
