THE NATIONAL UNION of Public Workers (NUPW) says its president Akanni McDowall has been replaced in a temporary post by a junior unqualified officer – a move that has stoked further claims of political victimisation from the union.

McDowall, who was appointed to act as a health planner in June, was suddenly returned to his substantive post of environmental health assistant two weeks ago.

In a statement to the SUNDAY SUN, the NUPW said the “abrupt reversion” of its president had set it on a “collision course” with Government.

“The NUPW . . . will not tolerate this kind of behaviour towards the president of the union,” the union wrote in the statement, adding that it would be having a meeting of its national council soon to discuss the matter. (MB)
