GEORGE LAMMING PRIMARY SCHOOL have advanced to the Round of 16 for the third year in a row in the Cave Shepherd/Berger Royale Primary Schools’ Road Tennis Championship.
With the duo of Akeem McCollin and Aaron Weatherhead leading the way, George Lamming topped the KFC Fish Sandwich Zone 2 with three wins out of three after yesterday’s matches at the Rubis Courts at Spring Garden.
St Martin’s Mangrove, inspired by Class II student Ahijah Blunte, were runners-up.
The two schools met in the first match of the day, with Blunte drawing first blood by defeating Damani Blenman 21-16. However, Weatherhead defeated Amari Griffith 21-19 and McCollin stopped Renico Taitt-Best 21-10.
Weatherhead, McCollin, and Blunte played unbeaten and each ended with three victories.
Deacons’ Primary and St Mary’s Primary turned up with just two players and after tumbling to both George Lamming and St Martin’s Mangrove, they split the battle between themselves.
Tyrese Carrington of Deacons edged Ashanti Maycock 21-19 but Anderson Gibson rebounded for St Mary’s, crushing Naija Carrington 21-9.
Gibson’s superior victory gave St Mary’s the third spot, as both teams had ended with two losses and no wins. (KB)
