MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA were today thrown out of the annual general meeting of the Prison Officers’ Association after a heated session attended by Attorney General and Minister of Home Affair Adriel Brathwaite.

When Brathwaite rose to address the gathering of Prison Officers at HMP, Dodds, St Philip, he announced that he could not speak as frankly as president Trevor Browne had done in the presence of the Press.

Journalists were subsequently asked to leave the room.

Earlier, Browne had given a very frank address on the treatment of the dedicated prison officers. He said they endured abuse at the hands of inmates, including being pelted with faeces.

The meeting continued and Brathwaite left after his address, but did not speak to the waiting journalists.

Browne later told the media their main grouse was the lack of appointments in the service. He said also some posts had been vacant for several years. (TSG)
