Some vendors practise ‘poor hygiene’
PEOPLE PURCHASING COCONUT water from vendors on the streets have been advised to be cautious when doing so.
This warning has come from the environmental health inspector at the David Thompson Health and Social Services Complex, David Nightengale.
While conducting an examination of the process of bottling coconut water at the Mount Wilton farm in St Thomas recently, he said registered coconut water producers adhere to strict hygiene standards allowing them to distribute the product to local retail outlets. However, he pointed out this standard is not guaranteed by unregistered vendors.
“There are some coconut vendors on the street who practice poor hygiene,” he said. (SB)
