Hawks get a grip on finals
PREMIER LEAGUE basketball is now but a win away for Dayrells Road’s other team.
It wasn’t easy, but Hilton Hawks have taken a 1-0 lead in the First Division finals, having barely survived Godfrey Leacock’s furious fourth-quarter rally to pull out Tuesday’s 78-75 Game 1 victory over Executive Air Dover Chargers at the YMCA.
The win puts the Hawks one game closer to winning the best-of-three title series and joining the neighbouring Warriors in basketball’s top flight next season.
And they looked well on course, too, blowing the game wide open courtesy a 21-5 third-quarter run (64-49) before leading by as many as 19 points (72-53) early in the fourth. (JM)
