Disabled community affected

MEMBERS OF THE disabled community across Barbados continue to be targeted by predators, some of whom have been tasked with protecting them.

As she raised alarm about the persistent problem, advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities Senator Kerryann Ifill made a case for continued education on sexual and reproductive rights of members of the community.

Delivering the lecture “Hearts from coast to coast: Building an Inclusive Barbados”, part of the ongoing Independence lecture series hosted by the Cave Hill campus of the University of the West Indies, Ifill, who is President of the Senate, said society, itself, needed to be educated.

The tabooed view of sexual issues relative to persons with disabilities also needs to cease, she argued, during the Thursday night session at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination. (WILLCOMM)
