National church service to mark 50 years

BARBADIANS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE and every religious denomination and faith are invited to join together to give thanks in the 50th Anniversary National Service of Thanksgiving which will take place as part of the Independence Celebrations on Sunday November 27th at 4 p.m.

The walls of Kensington Oval are expected to vibrate as thousands of Barbadians, living at home and abroad, gather and raise their voices to give thanks and praise.

This service of thanksgiving will feature the band of the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Praise Academy of Dance Liturgical Dancers, The Royal Diadems, the Wesleyan Youth Chorale, The Barbados National Youth Symphony Orchestra, the National Youth Choir, various school choirs and world renowned gospel singer Judy Bailey among others.

Those attending can expect a special rendition of the Lord’s Prayer by the Mighty Gabby and Paula Hinds. Musical and Choral Director for the service will be Julian Bowen.

The service will be conducted by President of the Barbados Evangelical Association Rev. Dr Nigel Taylor and the preacher will be Dr John Holder, Archbishop of the West Indies and Bishop of Barbados. Chairman of the Barbados Christian Council and the Religious Events subcommittee the Rev. Canon Noel Burke will also be participating.

A park and ride system will be facilitated by the Barbados Transport Board from three sites – the National Cultural Foundation car park in West Terrace, Weymouth B in Roebuck Street and Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill.

It will start from 1 p.m. and continue until the start of the service at 4 p.m.

The system will resume at the close of the service from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to return persons to their vehicles.  The cost will be $5.00 one way or $7.00 return.

Tickets for seating at this and several national events will be available from tomorrow.

They are the 50th Anniversary of Independence Parade at The Garrison Savannah on Wednesday, November 30, at 8 a.m. and the Golden Anniversary Spectacular Mega Concert at The Garrison Savannah at 8 p.m. the same day.

Tickets may be collected from the General Post Office, at the St Peter, Warrens, Oistins and St Philip Branches; and from Government Headquarters, Bay Street, St Michael, weekdays, between 8:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.  (PR)
