YESTERDAY’S OVERCAST skies didn’t at all dampen the spirits of St Philip Primary who emerged the winners of the KFC Original Salad Zone at the Cave Shepherd/Berger Royale/A1 Supermarkets Primary Schools Road Tennis Competition.
At the Rubis Courts, Brighton, St Philip certainly shattered the dark skies, winning all four of their matches.
St George Primary grabbed the runner-up position to also advance to the next round with three wins and one loss. Sharon Primary took third place with two wins and two losses.
Kanye Wharton led the way for St Philip when he pummelled his opponents to reel off four individual wins.
Wharton defeated Jahneal Gill of Cuthbert Moore 21-10, Tyrique Hunte of St Ambrose 21-6, Shelanie Augustin of Sharon Primary 21-8 and Tre Clarke of St George Primary 21-13.

Wharton maintained his composure against every contender while causing them to wilt under the pressure as he knocked them around the court.
St Philip made a clean sweep of their second match against St Ambrose 3-0 with teammates Dequon Toppin and Tremaine Shepherd stepping up to thrash Jahiem White and Malleko Haynes 21-7 and 21-11, respectively.
St George Primary’s three wins were against St Ambrose, Cuthbert Moore and Sharon Primary.
Jaquon Pilgrim was a pillar of strength for St George, winning three of his games. He defeated Malleko Haynes of St Ambrose 21-7; Tyreke Gittens of Cuthbert Moore 21-13 and Kiaros Greaves of Sharon Primary 21-12.
It was a hard loss in his final game against St Philip’s Toppin, who snatched the win 24-22 after exhibiting some outstanding technique.
Sharon Primary recorded wins against St Ambrose Primary and Cuthbert Moore, who took fourth and fifth place, respectively. The Total Sport Kim Holder Zone is slated for today at the same venue from 9:30 a.m. (RG)
