Region ‘off FIBA’s radar’
BASKETBALL’s big world body isn’t looking out for the little man.
So says national women’s coach Terry Inniss after the latest revamp of the Americas’ qualification system for the new FIBA World Cup cycle left his team with a three-year layoff between regional tournaments.
“It is what it is, because there’s nothing the BABA [Barbados Amateur Basketball Association] can do about it, but what I must say is that it is obvious that FIBA does not take into consideration the smaller island states into their planning,” said Inniss.
“It’s a trend where these moves only affect the small nations because someone like Barbados will always be at the vagaries of FIBA as CBC [Caribbean Basketball Confederation Championships] is our big thing.” (JM)
