Woman in wheelchair allegedly had drugs hidden in cast
MEMBERS OF THE DRUG SQUAD have formally charged a Jamaican national for a number of drug related offences which were reportedly committed at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Saturday.
Twenty-seven-year-old Racquel Nicole Turner was charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.
Turner arrived on the island by air on Saturday from Jamaica.
After clearing immigration, she was stopped by police who observed her being pushed in a wheelchair with a cast on her left foot.
She was interviewed by police and subsequently referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where an x-ray of the foot revealed several concealed packages.
The cast was removed and five taped packages containing three pounds of cannabis was discovered. She was subsequently arrested and charged.
Turner appeared before Magistrate Waveney Bannister in the Traffic Court on Saturday and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds, to reappear in the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court on November 22. (PR/SAT)
