BASSETERRE – Barbados Pride could have a tricky assignment today to avoid defeat against opponents who have not beaten them in a regional first-class cricket match since 2009.

Leeward Islands Hurricanes maintained the initiative for the third straight day of their Digicel four-day match at Warner Park yesterday, gaining a significant first innings lead of 140.

To their credit, Barbados battled back in the second half of the day to restrict their opponents to 89 for five in the second innings, as the lead extended to 229 ahead of today’s final day.

It sets the stage for an intriguing climax with Barbados still in with a slim chance of victory.(HG)
