OUT & ABOUT: Dwellings launches its Christmas Collection
Shiny and bright things were on display at the launch of the annual Dwellings Christmas Collection at its Millhouse, Canewood, St Thomas headquarters recently.
At the event, which was attended by a cross section of customers, managing director of Dwellings Inc., Luis Carrillo, said he was buoyed by the optimism of local tourism officials.
“I really look forward to that because it is critical for the economic situation in Barbados that we have a good tourist season. That is so important because the local economy can’t do it on its own. We need to have the foreign investment in this economy.”
Even though overall economic growth has been lethargic, the Dwellings management has been building out in anticipation of a return to healthier economic times. Carrillo cited expansion to the upper floor at the St Thomas location.
“Over the years, we have grown the business. The Dwellings Group operates Lilliplum Kids, and we opened another one in Worthing, Christ Church, last year and two years ago we opened the Ashley Furniture Store. That has allowed us to create more stable employment for our workers because if you have a bigger revenue base you are able to employ more people.
Carrillo and his wife, Gael Alluard, host the annual pre-Christmas event to showcase Dwelling’s best picks in home goods, appliances, furnishings and decorations. This year, the company is celebrating ten years in business. (GE)
