Driver in fatal crash fined

A MAN WHOSE FIANCÉE died after the car he was driving veered into the path of an oncoming car and collided was fined $3 000 yesterday.

The “unfortunate” accident, which occurred on August 22, 2011, saw Jason Hutson Beckles being charged with causing the death of Tracy Watson by travelling at a speed and in a manner dangerous to the public while on the ABC Highway.

Beckles, 33, of Bryden Road, Welchman Hall, St Thomas, had on February 18, 2015, denied the charge of causing death by dangerous driving but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of dangerous driving.

He appeared with his lawyer Wilfred Abrahams in the No. 2 Supreme Court before Justice Margaret Reifer yesterday. Principal Crown Counsel Anthony Blackman represented the Director of Public Prosecutions. (TKS)
