Boost for road tennis, but too many contests

THE INTEREST AND PASSION being displayed in road tennis is absolutely wonderful. It is a sport which deserves to be taken up islandwide since it does not call for major physical infrastructure and can be played by people of all ages.

It is a pity that we have taken so long to truly appreciate something truly Bajan. I believe that visitors to the island, whether staying at the luxury villas and diamond hotel properties or staying at the bed and breakfast or with a friend at their residence should be encouraged to play the game while here.

It is a fun sport and allows for some good exercise using the total body. We have landed on and are pushing a good thing.

However, we must be careful not to overdo the situation. I believe there are simply too many competitions and we need to have a season or seasons as happens with the other forms of this game played internationally.

The current non-stop competitions can lead to burnout and disinterest. We should also seek to heavily promote the sport across the Caribbean and those places in North America and Europe with big Caribbean populations.
