IN AN ATTEMPT to protect their reputations, companies in Barbados are not reporting acts of cybercrime, according to an anti-crime activist.
Director of Crime Stoppers Barbados, Dalia Littlewood, said companies were afraid that potential clients and employees would take their business elsewhere if it became public knowledge they had been attacked.
“What happens often is that it goes unreported because companies are embarrassed that there is exposure, so it stays within the confines of the business,” she said.
“They try to address it and they try to plug holes, but from a reputation perspective it matters because they want to have their customers and employees feel confident that their information is secure.” (RB)
