Warning about docking pay

THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION was way out of line when it deemed yesterday’s Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) meeting industrial action.

But president Mary Redman warned that if that was what it wanted, that was just what it might get if it tried to dock the pay for the 180 teachers who still went to the meeting.

She made the union’s stance on the matter clear yesterday following the meeting at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall.

The day before, Redman said she had been sent a letter which stated that holding the meeting during school time was tantamount to industrial action. She said she considered that letter as a “not so subtle threat” from the ministry. (AD)
