SHOP STEWARDS at Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) are at loggerheads.

The impasse stems from a decision by the NUPW not to issue a press release clarifying the reason for the current go-slow at the island’s lone airport.

Following a breakdown in wage negotiations last week between the airport’s management and the NUPW, staff at the airport proceeded on a go-slow.

However, the MIDWEEK NATION has learnt that shop stewards and NUPW president Akanni McDowall agreed to issue a press release after that meeting, informing the public that their actions were not related to the current industrial action by customs and immigration officers. (RB)
