Classic tees off Saturday
THE island’s top golfers have been going through their paces this week, getting tournament-ready for the RBC/Royal Bank Classic, which tees off on Saturday at the Barbados Golf Club (BGC).
This two-day Classic is rated as the second major on the Barbados Golf Association’s (BGA) calendar and also coincides with sporting events being staged to recognise Barbados’ 50th anniversary of Independence.
More than 100 players, many of them wearing the national colours of ultramarine and gold, are expected on the greens and fairways at the BGC where the course is expected to be challenging after extensive upgrade work on the greens over the past year.
Showers in recent days have interrupted practice sessions at Durants, but assistant general manager Robert McGuire said the course was in good shape and ready to welcome all competitors. (PR)
