Privatisation ‘not on the cards’

TO PRIVATISE OR not to privatise.

That is the question being asked increasingly about the future of Barbados’ state enterprises as a solution out of the country’s economic woes.

However, Minister of International Transport Richard Sealy doesn’t share the enthusiasm for turning the two major ports of entry lock stock and barrel over to private hands.

He said while the private sector already had substantial roles at the Bridgetown Port and the Grantley Adams International Airport, fully privatising these two entities was not on the cards.

“Selling or privatising them, no,” Sealy said after welcoming a JetBlue scheduled service recently out of Newark/ Liberty Airport to Barbados. (TB)
