SOCIAL SCENE: Who’s who show up for Gala
IT WAS NOT just the who’s who of Barbadian society attending the Gala Independence Dinner And Ball hosted by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart last week, but Barbadians from all walks of life who donned their finest and shelled out the money for a ticket to the glitzty, glamorous event at Ilaro Court that represented a historic moment for many.
It was a signature event in the celebration of Barbados’ golden jubilee, and a large contingent from the diaspora turned out. Many of them said they would not have missed the event for anything.
The grounds of the official residence were transformed into a magical setting with enchanting lighting for what was billed One Golden Moment In Time – A Celebration Of Excellence, and it did indeed showcased Barbadian excellence in style and fashion, music and gourmet cuisine.
The women’s style was exquisite, with some of them turning to local designers for that unique gown. NISE CEO Kim Tudor had veteran designer Pat Brathwaite outfit her in a blue dress. Others selected unique designs from the fashion racks of top local boutiques while women flying in from overseas came prepared to go toe to toe in style with their Barbados-based sisters. Not to be left out, the men were equally elegant in their sleek black tuxes.
