Captain not yet ready to choose Cup line-up

THE NEW MAN on the job really likes the new kids on the block – just not enough to make a decision yet.

Newly appointed captain Damien Applewhaite isn’t quite ready to pick a squad, having said he needs to see more of the Davis Cup hopefuls including college players Xavier Lawrence and Mathew Foster-Estwick before he leans in any one direction.

“The criteria that we have outlined, which has not been officially endorsed by the association, has Darian [King] and Haydn [Lewis] on the team already, but it’s too close to call with picking the other two players right now,” Applewhaite explained.

“I’m very happy with Matthew’s progress and we still have to remember that Adam Hornby is in the picture albeit that he’s injured so it’s still a tough decision to make at the end of the day. . . (JM)
