College players in mixed showings
THE KIDS didn’t quite stake their claim.
Collegiate players Matthew Foster-Estwick and Xavier Lawrence both made cases for Davis Cup selection, just not strong ones, having endured some mixed results during yesterday’s BTA Invitational at the National Tennis Centre.
With a semi-final berth already secured, the 18-year-old Lawrence suffered a serious bout of cramp in the third set before literally falling in a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-1 defeat to veteran Russell Moseley.
Foster-Estwick had a better time of it though, but was still down a break in the second set before Davis Cup player Seanon Williams retired due to work commitments with the Hampton University player leading 7-5, 2-4. (JM)
