At odds over longer hours
BARBADOS CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY president Eddy Abed and chief executive officer of the Small Business Association Lynette Holder are butting heads over the issue of extended business hours.
Abed said he would like the practice to not only prevail but spread to Government while Holder said there was no justification for it.
“We and a few others have been trying it for years since the revitalisation of Bridgetown started. We open late from Thursdays to Saturdays where on Thursday we get families, Friday are the weekly paid workers and Saturdays we catch those who just want to enjoy late shopping,” Abed said.
The managing director of Abed’s Co Ltd said the latest they opened at these times was 7:30 p.m. and not the later hours associated with the Christmas season, but it was still effective. (CA)
