Goodridge in line for Karch Kiraly Award
ANOTHER BAJAN volleyballer is making his mark overseas.
Talented outside hitter Jabarry Goodridge isn’t going unnoticed Stateside, having been selected to a 2017 preseason watch list for the annual collegiate Karch Kiraly Award.
His college, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), broke the news on its website after Goodridge was one of 33 outside hitters to be named on the watch list for the award presented to the NCAA Division I-II men’s best attacker.
A second-team All-American honouree last season, the former Foundation and Harrison College schoolboy made waves last season after becoming the Highlanders’ first honourable mention and second all-time American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American Award winner.
It came in a season in which Goodridge recorded double-digit kills in all but two of his 23 matches, including five 20-plus kill performances and a career-best 30 kills against Princeton.
The former Barbados Youth captain and national junior player ranked fourth in the US in kills per set (4.38) and 36th in hitting percentage (.303).
He led the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association in total kills (390) and kills per set (4.38) while ranking fourth in hitting percentage and fifth in service aces per set (0.33).
Goodridge and the Highlanders will open their 2017 season at Loyola-Chicago on Thursday. (PR)
