Digicel to soon pass on VAT

THE HONEYMOON had to end at some time.

Come 2017, both post-paid and prepaid customers of Digicel will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets, as the company has decided to end its absorption of the VAT increase on mobile phone use.

Customers started receiving text messages from yesterday, informing them to prepare for the increased rates from February, but to check the company’s website from New Year’s Day for more information.

“Due to the increased cost of doing business, Digicel is making adjustments to rates for prepaid and post-paid mobile and data services. As such, customers will see some increase in rates for mobile calls, data services and plans to reflect the increased costs,” the company’s chief executive officer in Barbados, Conor Looney said in a statement yesterday.
