Second loss for Deacons
BARBADOS’ most successful volleyball team Flow Deacons have set a number of enviable records since 1976 but 2017 could see them creating some unwanted records after a dismal start to the Goddard Enterprises Limited Senior Knockout Competition.
Deacons, who have won more titles than any other team, are in danger of failing to make the next round after suffering their second defeat in a row, losing to Cawmere 25-23, 25-20, 14-25, 18-25, 10-15 on Sunday night at Oldbury.
It is more than 20 years that Deacons have not lost two straight games or failed to make the semi-finals of the knockouts.
Former Barbados captain Elwyn Oxley returned to battle in a line-up that could have been called Elwyn and family with his son, Ashe Oxley suiting up along with brother Patrick Oxley and his son Akeel Oxley. (KB)
