Bajans eyeing three-peat

BARBADOS will be counting on all their good moves to try to secure the CARIFTA chess title for a third consecutive year.

At a press launch to announce the team at the Divi Southwinds Resort on Monday afternoon, president of the Barbados Chess Federation, Allan Herbert, said a hat-trick was not going to be an easy task.

Herbert said this was because the games were going to be held on Jamaican soil, which meant they had the advantage.

“Generally the country who is hosting has a significant advantage because they can provide many more players in the various sections to gain the necessary team points, whereas the visiting country usually will have some players in each section, but they can never match the host,” he said. (RG)
