SCHOOL IS IN SESSION and as usual there will be many mixed emotions. Firstly there will be some parents who will be sad to see their children go back to school because they will miss all of the cuteness around the house.
However, the number of sad parents shine dimly compared to the number of parents who are elated to get some peace and quiet around the house.
Most parents probably were too excited to sleep the night in front. But as for me I was a mixture of the two in that, yes, the cuteness around the house will definitely be missed, but nothing beats that peace and quiet.
So the night in front I was practising for the next day . . . check me now in the mirror. “Bye, have a good day. No, have a nice day. No no, ok how about, see you later baby girl, love you, yes that’s it!” I practise with different tones, inflections, pace, tilt my head in different directions, look if you doubt me ask me yuh.
Meanwhile, on the other end of the situation is the fact that the teachers, who manage to actually get free time this vacation, now have to deal with the fact that they have to care for numerous children five days a week.
For all of those who think teaching easy and teachers don’t do nothing, try and spend one day in a school with 500 plus children, with all the noise and having to explain to a six-year-old why and where yuh have to carry/borrow the one, and why cow is a big animal and not a big word. I can guarantee that there was a teacher at home somewhere with a bottle of wine and tear-stained face.
Do not for a second think that you have gotten away from the chaos which is known as back-to-school just because you don’t have a child and you are not a teacher. You see de mornings of leaving home 30 minutes before and still getting to work on time? Muh ting dem days done! I does could never understand it myself.
Why is it that when school out de roads scarce to empty? But as soon as de minglings head back out to school, everybody and dem grandmudda got a car. Is it that they drive to school or is it that nuff people does be forced to take the same route?
Anyway de most bestest ting bout this particular school term is de sports. Lord knows I can’t wait to see each child trying their best and having fun. Have a great term, everybody!
