Deacons make double strike

FLOW DEACONS’ men were expected to be looking for outfits as spectators for the remainder of the knockout season, but they may very well be looking for gowns to attend another volleyball coronation.

Facing an ignominious elimination from the Goddard Enterprises Limited senior knockouts in their final preliminary game on Sunday night at the Oldbury indoor facility, St Philip, Deacons showed why they have won more volleyball crowns than anyone else.

Like wounded tigers, Deacons turned and inflicted the first defeat in the knockouts on league kings Chargers 25-19, 25-27, 25-22, 25-14.

That victory sneaked Deacons into the semi-finals while putting out the daring All Stars who had stunned Deacons during the preliminaries. (KB)
