Community meetings on PDP start this weekend

BARBADIANS ARE BEING encouraged to participate in the upcoming community meetings on the Physical Development Plan (PDP), which is currently being amended.

The meetings will begin this Saturday, February 25, at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St Philip, at 3 p.m. There will be others on Monday, February 27, at The Alexandra School, Speightstown, St Peter; and Tuesday, February 28, at Queen’s College, Husbands, St James, commencing at 6 p.m.

On Friday, March 3, a meeting will be held at Queen’s Park Steel Shed, Bridgetown, while another will be at The Alleyne School, on Monday, March 6, both beginning at 6 p.m. The final discussion will be on Saturday, March 11, at Oistins, Bay Gardens, Christ Church, from 3 p.m.

Free health checks will be provided at the meetings, which are being hosted by the Town Planning Department and the consultants

A copy of the Draft Amendment to the PDP may be viewed on the Town Planning Department’s website at www.townplanning.gov.bb/pdp, and at the Town and Country Planning Department, Block C, The Garrison, St Michael, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Draft Amendment contains a number of policies which address issues related to Growth Management; Agricultural Preservation; Housing; Social and Community Facilities; Cultural Heritage; Environment/Green Economy; Economic Development; Tourism and Recreation; Transport; Resource Extraction; Climate Change and Renewable Energy. These policies seek to inform and make sure that future development is sustainable, in order to ensure that there is resilience to climate change and the necessary adaptation strategies are put in place.

The PDP is being amended by a consortium of local, regional and international consultants, headed by Urban Strategies Inc., in association with Ecoisle Consulting Inc. (BGIS)
