HISTORY will be created next week Saturday at the Garrison Savannah when the Barbados Turf Club (BTC) hosts a record 12-race card that includes the 36th edition of the Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup.

This information was revealed yesterday morning at a press conference held in the Incitatus Lounge at the BTC’s office where jockey Jalon Samuel pulled post position No. 5 for Dorsett’s title defence of the 1 800 metres Gold Cup scheduled to run off at 4:55 p.m.

BTC director David Murray gave a special welcome to sponsors Sandy Lane Hotel and further stated the BTC’s commitment to raising the level of its product offering.

Sandy Lane general manager Randall Willkie lauded the dedicated owners, trainers, jockeys and all the teams for the part each played in making Gold Cup Day a fantastic day of racing.

“We are truly honoured to partner with the Barbados Turf Club in hosting this prestigious event for now the 21st year as title sponsors,” Wilkie said.

“It’s my personal honour to present the sponsor’s cheque for the 36th running of the Gold Cup races in Barbados.”

BTC director Angela Simpson thanked Sandy Lane for the continued sponsorship and said she hoped they would continue their association with the event.

Simpson encouraged fans to place their bets early as with the four overseas contenders it was going to be a fantastic day.

Post time is 11:30 a.m. (LY)
