THE BARBADOS LABOUR PARTY wants Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler to speak up on the economy in a number of areas, including foreign reserves levels and reducing the country’s expenses.

In a statement from candidate and economist Ryan Straughn yesterday, the party said it had been a month since now fired governor of the Central bank, Dr DeLisle Worrell, told to the country that the Home-Grown Fiscal Stabilisation And Economic Revitalisation Programme had failed.

Straughn said that, according to Worrell, the programme had failed to restore and stabilise the foreign exchange reserves to protect the fixed exchange rate; reduce the fiscal deficit to sustainable levels; and lay the foundation for returning the economy to a sustainable growth path.

“The former governor also informed Barbadians that the printing of money by the Central Bank to finance Government’s fiscal deficits directly threatens the fixed exchange rate and must be stopped.” (PR/AC)
